My Learning Plans for 2021

Happy New Year Guys! Welcome to my first post of 2021. I thought I’d start off by sharing some of my learning plans for this year. I started up my Blog and Instagram page to share my passion for interior design and help people design their spaces. I have learnt a lot in the past year and I have so much more to learn. In the spirit of continuous learning, here is what I have planned for this year.

Buffer on Twitter: "“Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow.” - Anthony J. D'Angelo #MadeWithPablo… "

INTERIOR DESIGN CONCEPTS

I saw an ad on my IG page for a Master class course: Kelly Wearstler Teaches Interior Design and I was very curious so I checked it out. Masterclass has the best of the best – I love Kelly’s unique style and I can’t wait to learn from her.

INTERIOR DESIGN TOOLS

I have used 2 design tools in the past year, Design Files and Homestyler. Design Files was the first tool I used for e-design and I absolutely loved it. The highlight for me is the fact that I can design a space using the actual furniture that will be in that space. It really helped me visualize the room design and give a good idea of what the end product would look like.

I love Homestyler especially for the 3D rendering option. I mocked up my entire first floor to try this tool and I was surprised how easy it was to use. There is so much more to learn in order to fully leverage all the capabilities of the app and I can’t wait to dive in.

Please leave a comment down below if you would like for me to go into more details on how I use these apps  and some of the pros and cons I have encountered from my experience.

My goal is to eventually learn how to use Autodesk AutoCAD LT and Autodesk 3ds Max. I want to improve the quality of my content to deliver a comprehensive design portfolio. I know a lot of designers have people on their team that draw the sketches and rendering and that’s wonderful, it is great to delegate. However I am more of a hands on person and I like to know how to do things myself, even if I have to hire it out to someone else.

INTERIOR PHOTOGRAPHY AND EDITING

There is no greater joy than working hard to create a beautiful space and being able to share it with an audience. I plan to invest in more photography equipment and learn how how to shoot in different modes. Aperture Priority is my go to but my goal this year is to learn how to shoot in manual mode. There are several free resources on youtube that I plan to leverage and also Practice, Practice Practice.

I have also decided to learn Adobe Photoshop for editing my pictures and creating mood boards. I currently do all my editing in Adobe Lightroom and create 2D and 3D mood boards using design files. I have been hesitating to learn this tool because of the commitment (it is not free or cheap) and the time it would take to invest in learning it. However, I have decided to go for it and invest as much time as I can, learn it little by little and by the end of the year, I will know more than I know now. And that my friends is PROGRESS!

Thank you for spending this time with my musings. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. I’ll see you in my next post!
