Boy has it been a year already, and its only January. I couldn’t let this month end without sharing my home design plans for the year. I have decided to split this into 2 parts to make it easier to digest. Now lets get into it.
Project 1: Mudroom Update
The initial floor plan of our house had an open mudroom area in the kitchen and that was unacceptable to me. So we decided to add cabinets instead to make it a more functional space for us (see more details in Project 2 below). However we still needed a space to put our shoes and jackets so we utilized a little nook right beside the guest bathroom.

Plan: Update this space with a cabinets with shoe shelves and rack for hanging

Project 2: Kitchen Update – Open Shelves
Initially planned as the mudroom as mentioned above, we decided to opt out of the mudroom option while building and add cabinetry instead. This has quickly became a very functional part of our kitchen AKA our drop zone. Our design was to add upper and lower cabinets in this space but last minute the cabinet company had a delay with the upper cabinets so we cancelled the order. This turned out to be a blessing because having upper cabinets would have made this space too bulky.

Plan: Add open shelves

Project 3: Living Room Feature Wall
I had dreams of a full wall cabinet here. I was going to have so much fun styling the shelves with different Knick knacks and family pictures. Unfortunately that dream died the moment we decided the get the largest sectional we could fit in this space. Watching my kids run around this space, I realized that trying to fit the wall shelves isn’t the best for our family and how we live so I decided to pivot.

Plan: Design Feature wall and add gallery wall with pictures
