Floral Wonderland Nursery: Design Plans – ORC Week 1

This has to be the most exciting project I have worked on so far. I recently transformed my toddlers bedroom to her “big girl room” and during that project, I decided to keep it simple so I can easily make changes as she grows older. My toddler is very vocal about what she likes and what she doesn’t so I didn’t want to go big and go home LOL. However for my little baby, I had dreams of a floral wonderland!

I’m excited to be working on this room as part of the Fall One Room Challenge. The One Room challenge provides participants a supportive, enthusiastic forum in which to share the process of transforming a room. This event is by Better Homes and Garden and in each round, twenty design influencers are selected to take the challenge, as Featured Designers, and transform a space and everyone is welcome to participate as a guest. Every week, the designers document their process while sharing their sources and professional advice over six weekly posts.

Furniture

To start off, I ordered the cutest crib set from pottery barn kids and I’m so in love with it! I love every single detail from the tufted headboard to the little legs, it’s just what dreams are made of. This image on PB Kids was my inspiration for the nursery – I was obsessed with this framed wallpaper behind the crib, I knew that was IT!

I’m a sucker for a good convertible crib! My toddler has been in her crib since she was a baby and that has been converted to her toddler bed and now her full bed. She might be in that bed till she is off to college. Is that a deal or what!!!

To complete her furniture set, I got the matching dresser + changing station. My baby’s room is much smaller than her sisters so I didn’t want to crowd it with too much furniture. I really want to change the pulls to brass but I haven’t found any that I love. And the pulls that come with the dresser are oh so cute – they look like they are smiling at me! I am considering spray painting them brass but I want to leave that till the end when all the elements come together

I found this beautiful rocking chair and it’s exactly what I wanted and at a great price too. A lot of the reviews mentioned that it’s a little small but I’m 5.11 and it’s perfect for me. I also love that it came with a lumber pillow and a storage ottoman. It’s perfect for her room!

Feature Wall

I ordered this incredible wallpaper from Etsy after searching for the longest time for the perfect floral. I’m so excited for this, I could squeal. I will be diligently following this step by step tutorial on Jenna Sue’s blog on how to get this done! I opted for a removable (peel and stick) wall paper in vinyl because I wanted the option to change this room in the future with minimal damage to the walls. Also, I think it might be easier to work with an easy peel and stick VS dealing with glue. I chose the vinyl option because I wanted the floral detail to look more vibrant that it would with regular wall paper – especially since I would be framing it.

In order to make my framed wall paper dreams come true, I searched high and low for unique millwork pieces. I found these incredible corner moulding that I plan to use for the frame and the corresponding long moulding to complete it. I love these because it gives the frame such a finished custom look, like art on the wall. I also plan to finish the top walls that hit the ceiling with crown moulding or maybe a half round, I have to look at options. I still haven’t decided on what color to paint the mouldings yet. The room is painted SW Agreeable grey and I have no intention of painting her walls. I’m leaning towards an off white to match her bed or a soft pink.

Accessories

I have also been playing around with different options for the mirror that will go above the dresser. These are a few that I love.

I also want to have a space to hang decorative items so I am considering getting floating shelves to hang in a little corner of her room.

Finally, I have also been on the hunt for the perfect rug for this space. I can’t even make up my mind on the shape, round vs rectangle. This has really been a difficult one for me and I really hope to find something soon. It’ll really brighten up the room especially so this dark brown carpet doesn’t ruin my design. Help!

I am yet to find the perfect bedding as well to complete the space. I have my eye on a couple but I am careful not to have too many elements that clash. These are some of my favorites.

That’s all folks, my plans for my baby’s nursery. I really hope it turns out as beautifully as it is in my head. I have 6 weeks till reveal day so I will be posting my journey every week leading up to the final reveal – You don’t want to miss that!

Thank you for spending this time with my musings. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. I’ll see you in my next post!
