Toddler Bedroom Upgrade

Welcome to my toddler’s bedroom!

This was one of my favorite rooms to design! When we moved to our new house, I had a lot of plans for my daughter’s room but I got so busy with everything else it ended up being plain. When she turned 3 in August, I decided to upgrade her room to a “Big girl” room. She was already in her toddler bed which was her convertible crib, all I had to do was convert the toddler bed to a full sized bed and her room was fully furnished!

TIP: Invest in a convertible crib that goes from crib for the baby to full bed (4 in one OR 5 in one). The furniture pays for itself and you don’t have to buy anything for years.

(PS: I forgot to take a before picture of Abigail’s bedroom so I had to do a little editing to show the “before” LOL)

Design

I decided to create an accent on the wall her bed was against. I really wanted a feature accent that showed her transition into a big girl. I considered building some wall paneling or using wallpaper but ultimately decided to create my own pattern using decals I sourced on Etsy. I wanted a princess themed room for her so I went with whimsical hearts and crown decals for the design.

I measured the decals and decided how much space I wanted to have in between each decal to get the look I wanted. Each decal was roughly 4 inches by 4 inches so I decided to leave a 4 inch space in between each decal. Using the wall sq footage, I calculated how many decals I would need to fill the wall in order to determine how many decals to buy. After placing the order I changed my mind and decided to leave an 8 inch space between each decal just so they were not too close together. It turned out exactly as I envisioned but I have ended up with so much extra decal, I could design a whole new room! (any takers? lol).

I really loved how this room turned out and she loved it too. I’m planning to add a few more pieces to this space as time goes. She is getting to that age where she knows what she likes and what she doesn’t so I would like to get her input on the decor items I add just so it’s a little more personalized and I know she loves it (even though she’ll most likely change her mind 3 seconds later). But till then, I look forward to working on her sisters nursery so stay tuned.

Thank you for spending this time with my musings. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. I’ll see you in my next post!
